RSO Highlight - Phoenix Biology
Phoenix Biology is an RSO near and dear to the BSCD - as the most official Biology related RSO, faculty and staff often are supporting them in one way or another. Phoenix Biology is a two-time William J. Michel RSO of the Year Award winner, determined by student, staff, and faculty nominations. Even without the administrators signal boosting their events and helping reach students, Phoenix Biology often shines all on their own.
Phoenix Biology has affirmed some specific goals for the past year or so, focusing heavily on assisting students with career exploration in both Biology and in Medicine. Informing students about lab research opportunities, facilitating preparation for graduate school applications, and connecting with external partners like the Mayo Clinic and McKinsey & Company are just some of the career focused initiatives they put on.

Another big priority for the leadership board is helping build a sense of community amongst the students of the BSCD. Mentorship “families” connect under, and upperclassman for academic and social support. Currently they are planning a mentorship collaboration with the UChicago chapter of Women in STEM (WiSTEM). In addition to these mentorship opportunities, Phoenix hosts a number of fun and personable events to bring their members together.
More than anything Phoenix Biology is a huge resource for students of the BSCD. “Phoenix Biology is here to help you navigate through many academic and career-related challenges. Our programs might be just what you’ve been missing!” Said President Derek Chan, during a brief meeting with the Phoenix Biology Leadership Board.
